The purpose of this grant is to improve the
entrepreneurial capacity of local film and
video professionals.

The opening day of La Femme Filmposium, June
25, featured four showings of films by Women
Filmmakers.

TWO
Saturday, June 26 - Panel Sessions and Discussions
Informative interactive presentations by local
professionals on a variety of compelling topics.
Session
1: Funding and Creative Distribution for Your
Indie Project
Panelists:

Ellen
Bergstone Beer, Oregon Film & Video
Foundation / Hollywood Theatre Project.
Ellen is originally from
Winston-Salem, NC and where she worked at
a number of nonprofit arts, community and
academic organizations, including Old Salem,
Inc. (a living museum and historic restoration),
the National Black Theatre Festival, the
Community Music Center, The Stevens Center
of the North Carolina School of the Arts,
and the School of Filmmaking at the North
Carolina School of the Arts. Since 2002
she has served as the Development Director
for the Oregon Film & Video Foundation
/ Hollywood Theatre Project. In 2003 the
Oregon Film & Film Foundation implemented
a program to support the production of noncommercial
independent film projects. Currently the
OFVF has five documentary projects in various
stages of production and has helped raise
more than $75,000 in production funds.

Blubaugh, Northwest Film Center

Daniel
Rowland, Independent Filmmaker and Film
Acquisitions Director for First Look Rentals.
Daniel Rowland is the producer of Best of
the Northwest Video award winner "Estrella
War", a documentary about the medieval
re-enactment group, Society for Creative
Anachronism, and "7:Minute Psychosis",
which has played at film festivals worldwide.
He has also worked on film productions such
as "Elephant", "The Hunted"
and "Bandits". Currently Daniel
freelances in Portland for different studios
and serves as the Film Acquisitions contact
for First Look Rentals, a new distributor
for Independent filmmakers that specializes
in helping the filmmaker self-distribute
and making a bridge between major distributors
and the filmmaker.

Session
2: Breaking into the Industry
Panelists:

Michel
Jackson, Independent Producer.
Michel was part of the production team on
movies such as "Dr. Dolittle"
and "The Game" as well as the
indie films "HurlyBurly", "Dream
With the Fishes", and "Haiku Tunnel".
Recently, Michel began the "Portland
Film Project", through which she produced
and directed her first short documentary
"George's". She hopes to continue
to use the "Portland Film Project"
as a way to support and promote the local
film community.

Rolla
Selbak, Independent Filmmaker.
Rolla recently completed her first feature
film, "Making Maya", which will
be shown at La Femme Filmposium on June
25 @ 8 PM.

Morgan
Currie, Filmmaker and Writer. Morgan
works as an associate producer at OPB, where
she has produced segments for Oregon Art
Beat.

Joanna
Priestley, Independent Animator.
Joanna Priestley has produced, directed
and animated 17 award winning films. She
has had retrospectives at the Museum of
Modern Art (New York), Center for Contemporary
Art (Warsaw, Poland) and the Stuttgart Animation
Festival (Stuttgart, Germany) and has received
fellowships from the National Endowment
for the Arts, the American Film Institute,
the MacDowell Colony, Fundación Valparaíso
and Creative Capital.

3: Defining Your Path and Following Your Vision

Blain, Screenwriter.

Suzanne
Twining, Freelance Animator. Suzanne
has worked on MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch,"and,
while with Will Vinton Studios, "The
PJs." In 2001 Suzanne completed her
first professional film "Terminator
Tomatoes," which will screen as part
of the 10 PM show on June 25 at La Femme
Filmposium. The film has played world wide
in more than 40 festivals.

Marcus, Independent Filmmaker

Kim
Harvey-Trigoso, Independent Filmmaker.
Kim Harvey-Trigoso is a Peruvian-American
cultural anthropologist and an emerging
filmmaker residing in Portland, OR. She
her recent documentary "Growing Up
Native: Four Life Stories" was made
using a participatory-community approach.
"Growing Up Native" financed in
part by a grant from the Oregon Council
for the Humanities.

Rebecca
Rodriguez, Writer and Director.
Rebecca Rodriguez has produced and directed
her a number of short films including SOUL
COLLECTORS, which was featured at the Seattle
International Film Fest, and FLOATER, which
premiered at the Philadelphia Festival of
World Cinema in April 2001 and was selected
by Hypnotic.com as one of twenty-five films
to compete for $1MM feature film budget.
More recently Rodriguez completed principal
photography on her first feature film COMING
UP EASY that is now making its way onto
the film festival circuit.

4: Getting Connected with the Local Film and
Video Industry

Jennison, Executive Director of the Oregon
Media Production Association.

Bryant, Writer and Curator of the local
indie salon for AIVF.

Dj
Hupp, Founder of Portlandfilm.org. DJ
Hupp is a filmmaker originally from Sacramento,
CA. When he relocated to Portland in 2003,
he created the Portlandfilm website (www.portlandfilm.org)
which serves as a networking resource for
the local film community.

Liza
McQuade, Oregon Office of Film and Video.
Liza has been in the television/film industry
for the past 18 years and has a wide array
of production and creative experience. For
nearly a decade, she was a producer on the
prestigious "Town Hall" Program
at KATU in Portland. She also worked as
a Producer/Location Scout at Creative Media
and was Operations Manager for the Portland
International Film Festival. Prior to that
Liza was a Talk Show Host and Public Affairs/Public
Service Director at KRCR TV in Redding,
CA. Her experience also includes 6 years
of news anchoring/reporting and producing
numerous documentaries, and travel specials.
Liza joined the Oregon Film and Video Office
in the spring of 1999. During that time
her projects have included: "Pay It
Forward", "Swordfish", "The
Hunted", "World Traveler",
"Delicate Instruments", "Raising
Flagg", "Mean Creek", and
many of the commercial productions, documentaries
and news segments our office handles each
year.
